Legal Exchanges & Internships

A delegation came from Cincinnati to the Sister City Munich for the first time in 1995 as part of the newly established Attorney exchange program. This was initiated by the CBA (Cincinnati Bar Association). The CBA chose to contact the "Munich Bar Association", which is the Rechtsanwaltkammer for Munich and Upper Bavaria.
Members of the CBA are attorneys as well as judges and other professionals trained in the Legal field .
Since the Bar Association in Munich is made up only of members who are attorneys the group coming to Munich from Cincinnati regularly included Judges. This fact led to an interesting and unexpected development: since then even Munich Judges and others in law related occupations become involved.
Since 1995 there has usually been a visit to Munich in April or June (or even in December) and the return visit to Cincinnati has often been around Labor Day and even twice in October during "Tall Stacks".
Generally the group consists of about 10 attorneys so that the Group was easy to manage and more easily schedule for events. Each year there were highlights which were adopted for future years. For example:
Now, for more that two decades, the contact between of the attorneys from varied areas of practice and their stays in the each others homes, have led to many interesting connections and friendships beyond the professional scope. These have developed on both sides of the Atlantic. Many of these personal relationships begun through the exchange have continued outside of the structure of the formal program exist to this day and already bear fruit for the next generation.
It is our hope that such a positive example of International Understanding - actually True Friendships between Countries -, will continue to grow through the exchange.
